Ooty Pykara Lake and Falls

The grand attractions of Ooty are the well landscaped lakes, waterfalls jumping from the hillocks, ancient temples and monuments. This lake city enveloped in the Nilgiris has many beautiful lakes like Porthimund Lake, Emerald Lake, Upper Bhavani, Avalanche and Pykara Lake.

Among these major lakes Pykara Lake and Falls is the most popular tourist spot. Pykara River which is considered as the most sacred river by the local tribal’s originates at Mukurthi peak and adapts a hilly track to finally jump into the plains where a dam is constructed. The course of the river is rolling through a number of diversions encouraging many small streams or outlets. Finally the last two falls jumping from a height of around fifty five and sixty one meters are called Pykara Falls.
