It is home to many popular tourist spots; but there are some attractions nearby that draws many visitors every year. Among them is St. Stephen's Church, which travellers can visit on the way to Mysore city. This church is one of the oldest in Nilgiris district, and was established in the early nineteenth century.

Stephen Rumbold Lushington, Governor of Madras during the nineteenth century, had felt the need to have a church in Ooty for British people residing in the hill station and its surrounding regions. Foundation of this church was thus laid on 23rd of April, 1829, coinciding with King George IV's birthday. It was consecrated by the Bishop of Calcutta, John Matthias Turner, in the year 1830. On the 3rd April, 1831, it was opened to public communion. Timber used in the construction of St. Stephen's Church was taken from the palace of Tipu Sultan. Architect of the church was John James Underwood, who was a Captain in the Madras Regiment. St. Stephen's Church features scenes from the life of Jesus Christ on its wall and stained glass windows. Even after so many years, this structure still shows no signs of wear and tear; and continues to mesmerize numerous faithfuls and tourists visiting it. Travellers enjoying a stay in Ooty during their vacation can make a trip to this church during its daily visiting hours. On every Sunday, it holds a service from 8:00 in the morning till 11:00 am.
